Overlooking the lake is the Lake Dillon Amphitheatre, the
venue for summer local theater, family programs and the ever popular free
Saturday evening "Sunset at the Summit" concert series. Between the Marina
and the Amphitheatre is the Marina Park, which is home to the Friday Farmers
Market. The Market is an open-air market featuring fresh grown produce,
homemade baked goods, flowers, and specialty foods. The Market runs mid-June
through the end of September. Throughout the town of Dillon
and along the miles of shore-side bike paths are the public parks and the
smaller pocket parks, which provide the perfect resting spot to take in the
views.
In the wintertime, Dillon's quaint and cozy atmosphere is a
great alternative from the larger resorts for lodging, shopping and dining.
Dillon is centrally located along the free bus routes and less than 20 minutes
from any of the county's ski areas. If you are looking for alternate outdoor
activities, there are intermediate snowshoe and cross country skiing
opportunities at the Dillon Nature Preserve, which also offers some of the most
spectacular views within Summit County.
Another great option is Dillon's self-guided historic walking tour around
downtown Dillon that focuses on the buildings and homes moved from the town's
original site prior to the completion of the dam.

As of today, Frisco's election for council members will be canceled. A resolution to approve this was OK'd at Tuesday's town council meeting. There are three candidates to fill three seats, so an election isn't necessary. Though the Town of Dillon also has three candidates to fill three open council seats, its election is not being canceled as there are two mayor candidates - Don Parsons and Ron Holland.

DILLON - Geoffrey Schmidt's desire to join Dillon's town council partly stems from his love for the community. But he also seeks public office to be heard by the town on his opinions over two public works projects. As one of three council candidates seeking three open spots, Schmidt will likely be a new member come April. "The beauty of the lake and the mountains, the recreational opportunities and the small-town atmosphere of Dillon are aspects of our lives that we appreciate every day," said Schmidt, one of three town council candidates. "I want to be a member of Dillon's town council to help perpetuate the quality of life we've enjoyed in Dillon." He also noted two specific town public works projects he would like to have influence over - the road reconstruction project in the Corinthian Hill neighborhood and rate fee increases for sewer and water use in Dillon. "I'm actively involved in trying to minimize t

FRISCO - Interstate 70 congestion, the Dillon Dam Road and local transit operations are up for discussion tonight at a public meeting in the Summit County Community and Senior Center. "With no significant action on highway improvements expected for six more years and no high-speed rail solution until 2020 at the earliest, local and state officials are looking into short-term (I-70) solutions..." according to a press release from organizer Our Future Summit. The discussion is to address bills recently proposed at the Capitol to help alleviate traffic problems in the short-term. Participants are to include Frisco town manager and I-70 Coalition chair Michael Penny, Colorado State Patrol Captain John Lupton, Summit County Sheriff John Minor as well as officials from Denver Water and Summit Stage. "With the downturn in the economy, Summit County's free public transportation system faces challenges in maintaining a level of service that visitors and lo

1. Briefly tell us a little bit about your background: How long you've been in the county, family, interests, etc. ounty in 1998 - he initially lived in Summit Cove and then moved to Dillon in 2004. His real-estate office is also located in downtown Dillon. Real estate brought Smith to Summit from Ohio because he knew the county had great growth potential. Smith and his wife, Janelle, have two boys - 3-year-old Joey and 1-year-old Josh and when the Dillon Realtor isn't working or running for town council, Smith said he loves to be outdoors and spend time with his family.
2. What is the main reason you want to be on council? Smith wants to be a member of Dillon's town council because he "really believes in the Town of Dillon." "I think it has great potential and with that potential is the need for good leadership," he said. "I think there's a lot of projects on the horizon. They need to be overseen (and) directed." SUMMIT COUNTY - The Summit Board of County Commissioners voted Tuesday to approve an expansion of Old Dillon Reservoir, located on U.S. Forest Service land between the Dillon Dam Road and Interstate 70. The proposed expansion would enlarge Old Dillon Reservoir's capacity from 62 acre-feet to 286 acre-feet by raising its north and south dams. The $7 million project would create new water-storage and water-supply capacity for the town of Dillon, the town of Silverthorne and unincorporated Summit County. All three entities project that demand for municipal water in their respective service areas will increase in coming years. Old Dillon Reservoir was originally constructed in 1936 as a water-supply source for Dillon. The 14-acre reservoir is fed by water diverted from Salt Lick Gulch, just to its north. Salt Lick Gulch is a tributary of the lower Blue River. In 1963, Denver Water constructed the new Dillon Reservoir to supply drinking water to Denver, requiring the town of Dillon
